How it works

  1. Tell us what needs washing

  2. One contractor, not five. You’ll hear back either way.

  3. Get the price in writing first

Black streaks on a roof are usually algae, not damage.

The roofing makers say there's no evidence algae harms asphalt shingles. Moss is the one that lifts shingle edges. on algae · on moss

Ask what goes on your roof before anyone climbs up. A pressure washer shouldn't.

Questions

When can I call?

Any hour. An automated assistant answers and takes your details, and you’ll hear back from one exterior cleaning contractor or from us.

Why won’t you pressure wash my roof?

The roofing manufacturers say never to use a pressure washer on an asphalt shingle roof: it strips the granules and is likely to end the roof early. What they publish instead is a low pressure wash — solution on, fifteen to twenty minutes, then rinsed off gently (the roofing manufacturers' guidance).

Does anyone license this work?

Not for washing, so ask for proof of insurance. Siding or roof repair needs a state license, and you can look it up yourself.

Where does the water go?

In Southfield the storm drain and the sewer are two different systems, and what goes down a storm drain is not treated. About 90% of the city drains to the Rouge River and the rest toward the Clinton, which is why the rinse water belongs on grass or planting beds (what the city says about storm drains · the city's own rule).

When can this be done?

Spring through fall. Water washing needs 40 °F and rising, then a week without a freeze (the brick industry's guidance).

Will I be charged for the visit?

Calling us costs nothing. Some contractors charge to come out and look at the job. Ask before they come, and get the price in writing.
